Girls on the Make

**So this is what the Sexual Revolution was all about...** "Adam & Eva - Mädchen, die es gerne machen" (literally, "Adam and Eve: Girls Who Like to Do It") is a production by the prolific filmmaker Erwin C. Dietrich, using the pseudonym Michael Thomas. The film wanders between a talking-head documentary and explicit erotic cinema, serving as a faithful reflection of the wave of uninhibited liberation that swept through Europe in the 1970s and mid-1980s. This reality-TV approach features several Swiss and German couples, kicking off with a porn director and his actress wife. They sit down in front of the camera to dish about their intimate lives, fantasies, and how they view love within the adult film industry. Following their testimonies, the narrative gives way to the outright, explicit staging of the stories they’ve just shared, using the participants' own statements as the sole common thread to stitch the sequences together. From a more analytical perspective, the work functions primarily as a social time capsule and an archival document on the boom of European exploitation cinema. The narrative framework is bare-bones; the interview format acts merely as a device to justify a succession of sex scenes rather than to build a complex plot or deep character development. While "Adam & Eva - Mädchen, die es gerne machen" is considered a minor entry in the adult film catalog—one utterly devoid of artistic pretensions—it actually holds a certain historical value. It offers a window into the cultural habits and the evolution of sexual liberation discourses within the film trade of that decade.
