Happiness - Season 1

Shadi and Ferial are hanging out at the playground in their wealthy neighbourhood in northern Tehran. Ferial makes fun of Shadi: Why move to France if she can’t pluck up the courage to speak to guys?

Shadi gets bored in her class with her French poetry tutor, until she gets a message from Sina, the guy from the day before.

Shadi and her mother are summoned to the head teacher’s office. Shadi has been caught with a bottle of wine given to her by Sina, but alcohol is banned in Iran.

Shadi comes home from Ferial’s where she took refuge after her fight with her mother. At home, she overhears a conversation about her future life in Paris.

Kish is a long way, so to get there Shaid and Ferial will need a car. They arrange to meet Sina at a well-known panorama, The Roof of Tehran. But will he agree to be their driver?

The gang are out of Tehran traffic and on the open road. The mood in the van is good even though Parsa is not the most helpful co-driver to Sina.

Out of cash, Shadi, ferial, Parsa and Sina have to make a stop at Qom, the holy city. The four Tehranis don’t go unnoticed.

Ferial's mother calls on Shadi's mobile, not convinced by her daughter's story of losing her mobile. Parsa takes control of the situation, which annoys Ferial and Shadi. How can they find a beach in the desert?

The travellers arrive in Shiraz in southern Iran. Shadi ponders her father’s message whilst Sina suggests going for a traditional dessert in the bazaar.

Tired out by their journey and lost in the mountains, tensions rise in the van. Shadi admits something to the gang.

Shadi is surprised to wake up to a traditional marriage. Parsa seems to enjoy the festivities, but Ferial hasn’t forgiven him for his actions.

Sina tries to repair the van and Parsa wakes up groggy with a black eye whilst Shadi and Ferial go and fetch water.

It’s time for Ferial and Parsa to go home, Shadi decides to stay on. Sina is concerned that he won’t find the missing part to repair the van.

Shadi continues the journey to Kish. Arriving on the island of Kish, she has an unexpected encounter.

Shadi is alone on the beautiful beach of Kish, an island she doesn’t know. She decides to go and see her mother, but that is when the battery on her phone dies...
